Jean Zurbuchen Breitling Navitimer

this is the original Navitimer with V7750 movement , made after Mr Breitling liquidated the company in the late 70ies. This watch was made in 1980-1983 by a former Breitling Master Watchmaker from original Breitling 806 parts. Story goes that he had this idea while the company was still in existence but the idea never came to fruition . After the liquidation of the Breitling company in 1978/79 Mr Jean Zurbuchen still went ahead and produced several 100 watches which he sold . When Mr E Schneider bought the trademarks and brand name ‘Breitling’ ‘Navitimer’ he subsequently proceeded to ‘invite’ Mr Jean Zurbuchen to court as he did not want anyone else making watches that resembled a Navitimer .. Mr Zurbuchen (and others, like O&W ) did not have the finances for a long court battle and stopped producing these watches with V7750 movements . Shortly after this Mr E Schneider released the “Old Navitimer 81600” and the similarities as more than just a coincidence.

CASE & BACK: This watch measures a large 41 x 48.3 mm not including crown and is 13mm to the top of the flush fit crystal. The heavy all-steel case from a Navitimer ref 806 does not appear to have been polished , still shows its original bevels and contrast satin-polished finish. There are very few superficial scratches and some nicks commensurate with a normally worn 35-year-old tool watch  — Fantastic vintage condition overall. The outer part of the snap steel back has some very light and superficial scratches but shows its original nomenclature of the period Excellent original cosmetic condition. The inner display caseback shows no corrosion

BEZEL & SLIDERULE: The Coin edged rotating bezel is in good condition . The bezel itself rotates with good tension in both directions as designed.  Sliderule is in fantastic condition

DIAL & HANDS: A Matte black and white dial with white printing and finely calibrated track and only the minor imperfections , big white silver subdials with nice and even patina All original ‘cream’ colored Tritium luminous indexes . All original hands

CROWN & PUSHERS:  crown looks very clean and winds and pulls out to the time-setting position as it should. It sits tightly against the case. The two pusher caps are likewise in Excellent shape and both chrono pushers work as they should and also nice and crisply.

CRYSTAL: Large flush-fit acrylic crystal is Excellent and without scratches and no marks and sits barely proud of the bezel

MOVEMENT: Valjoux 7750 chronograph movement is looking bright and working well . Watch is keeping good time with a strong power reserve and all chronograph functions are working properly and returning to zero. This is guaranteed to be the case at the time of shipment.

SERVICE: this watch has just been completely serviced in Sept 2016
